Second Annual South Kingstown Outstanding Youth Award

Recognizing Young People in our Community
Who Serve the Needs of Others

The South Kingstown Community Partnership for Prevention through its Drug Free Communities Grant is pleased to announce its Second Annual South Kingstown Outstanding Youth Award that recognizes young people in the South Kingstown community who haved served the needs of others.

Last year the South Kingstown Partnership for Prevention presented 72 young people with the SK Outstanding Youth Award for their service to our Community. For parents of a child who received the Award last year, congratulations! For those of you who may have submitted a nomination on behalf another young person doing good deeds in our Community, thank you for taking the time to do so. The Award Event was an incredibly positive and inspirational evening and we look forward to another uplifting event on May 22nd this year.

Purpose of the Award:

The South Kingstown Outstanding Youth Award was created by the SK Partnership for Prevention (SKPP) to publicly recognize and celebrate the positive contributions of the youth in our Community who, by virtue of their service to others (and/or to the Community of South Kingstown), are playing a key role in local substance abuse prevention efforts and are setting a positive example for other youth in our Town. 72 of these fine young people were recognized last year!

Recognition:

All nominated youth who meet the stated eligibility and award criteria will be honored at a special event in May and will be presented with a special Community Service Achievement Award. The South Kingstown Town Council will recognize the youth publicly for their efforts at a future Town Council meeting and an ad will be placed in a local newspaper celebrating their achievements.

The SKPP is seeking confidential nominations from NON-FAMILY members of eligible youth who meet the following criteria: (Please note: Nominators must be someone who either: was involved with the activity/service; observed the activity/service first-hand but was not directly involved; was a beneficiary of the service.)

Eligibility:

Each nominee must:

  • Be a South Kingstown resident and be in grades 6 through 12
  • Display good character and be substance-free
  • Have not received any compensation for this activity
  • Not have received this Award for the same activity

Award Criteria:

The service activity:

  • Must have occurred between 4/1/07 - 4/1/08
  • May be a one-time or on-going/annual event
  • Must have met a real need or concern of a SK resident (or group of residents) or improved the quality of life in South Kingstown.
  • May be the nominee's own initiative or that of an organized group.
